IPTV error codes explained
When an IPTV stream or playlist will not load, the provider's server usually sends a code that says why. Here is what the common ones mean and what you can do. These codes come from your provider's server, not from the player.
| Code | What it means | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| 401 Unauthorized | The username or password is wrong, or the subscription has ended. | Check the login with your provider. Re-type the password; copy-paste often adds a space. |
| 403 Forbidden | The server refuses you. Many providers block unknown players by their user agent, or block your IP address or country. | Try another user agent in your player's settings. If you use a VPN, try without it (or with it). |
| 404 Not found | The playlist link or the channel no longer exists at that address. | Get a fresh link from your provider; reload the playlist so removed channels disappear. |
| 429 Too many requests | You (or your player) asked too often in a short time, often after many quick reconnects. | Wait a minute before trying again. |
| 451 Unavailable for legal reasons | The server blocks the content in your region. | Nothing to fix in the player; contact the provider. |
| 456, 458 and other 4xx codes Non-standard refusal | Not standard HTTP codes. IPTV panels use them for their own reasons. In our own testing, 456 meant the account's connection limit was reached: another app was already playing with the same login. | Stop playback in every other app and device that uses the same login, then try again. If it continues, ask your provider what the code means. |
| 884 Non-standard refusal | Also not a standard code. We have seen it when downloading an M3U playlist from an Xtream-style get.php link. | Try the Xtream login (server, username, password) instead of the M3U link, or ask your provider. |
| 500, 502, 503, 504 Server error | The provider's server is down, overloaded or misconfigured. | Wait and try later. This is on the provider's side. |
| 520 – 526 Cloudflare error | The provider sits behind Cloudflare, and Cloudflare cannot reach the provider's own server (for example 521: server down; 522 and 524: timed out). | Wait and try later; contact the provider if it lasts. |
No code: "failed to open" or a timeout
If there is no code at all, the player never got an answer. Check your internet connection, try another channel, and check whether the provider's server is reachable. A firewall, a VPN or a DNS problem can also cause this.
"The playlist loaded but has no channels"
The link worked but returned an empty list. This happens when an account has expired, when the link asks for another output type, or when the provider returns an error page instead of a playlist.
Connection limits: the most common cause
Many subscriptions allow only one stream at a time. A TV, a phone or another player on your PC that is still playing (or did not close its connection properly) blocks every new stream. Close the other app, wait a few seconds and try again.
Questions
What does "failed to open" mean in an IPTV player?
The player could not start the stream. The underlying reason is usually an HTTP error from the provider (such as 401, 403 or 456), a timeout, or a network problem. Chanzap shows the actual reason instead of only "failed to open".
Why does my IPTV work on one device but not another?
Most subscriptions allow a limited number of simultaneous connections, often just one. If another device is playing, new streams are refused. Some providers also lock an account to one device or IP address.
Does changing the user agent help?
Sometimes. Some providers only accept certain players and refuse others with a 403 error. Changing the user agent in the player's settings can fix that.
